Position Purpose
To advance the gospel and the mission of Hill Country Christian School by ensuring that every area within our athletics department pursues character formation in our students through rigorous and excellent athletic programs.
Accountability: Reports to the head of school.
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with coaches, administrators, parents, and students.
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple teams, schedules, facilities, and events simultaneously
- Knowledge of best practices in athletic program structure
Qualifications:
- Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
- Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
- BS/BA in Physical Education, Health Sciences, or Sports Management is required.
- MA in Athletics Administration is preferred.
- Participated in high school and possibly college sports. Have a wide spread knowledge of interscholastic sports.
- Experience in coaching multiple sports and being an athletic director.
- Must be capable of exercising good judgment in evaluating situations, managing priorities, and making decisions.
Key Results Areas:
The Athletic Director will envision and develop a top tier athletic program aimed at discipleship and excellence by:
Casting vision for an athletic program that aligns with the schools mission
- Cast vision with coaches, teachers, parents and students for a discipleship oriented and excellent athletic program
- Work with individual coaches within each sport to envision a top tier program in their individual sport
- Regularly reinforce a discipleship first vision for athletics with coaches, parents, and students
Recruiting, hiring, developing, holding accountable, and terminating firing coaches
- Hire, develop, retain, and terminate when necessary, fire all athletic coaches when necessary
- Create a distinct culture of discipleship with all coaches and staff within the athletic department
Working with team specific coaches to develop a program more than an individual team
- Help coaches develop athletic programs more than individual teams through intentional execution of a vision across all sport specific age groups
- Create a vision to develop strategic and specific teams beginning in Elementary
- Work with coaches to develop strength and conditioning programs by sport
Building a team of competent staff to run the athletic program
- Hire, develop, and retain all athletic department administrators to ensure excellent leadership and execution within the department
- Create clear job descriptions for each administrator within the department to ensure proper delineation of duties and responsibilities
Ensuring all logistics within the program are organized and executed
- Create a team and a plan to effectively execute on the high level of detail and administrative tasks within the Athletic department
- Ensure all team schedules are regularly updated and accurate
- Ensure all non-Hill Country facilities are booked well in advance
- Oversee execution of all team and individual travel plans within the Athletic department
- Create systems to maintain, and replace all sports equipment
- Maintain athletics website and social media
- Ensure all programs comply with TAPPS regulations
Ensuring all athletics teams exemplify the mission of the school
- Insist on all teams, coaches, and student athletes conduct themselves, on and off of the field, in a way that exemplifies the mission of the School and honors our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
- Will be located in a busy, sometimes noisy office. Will be faced with frequent interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis.
- There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. Must be able to communicate clearly with a wide variety of people on various issues.
- Frequently move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds.
- Occasional lifting of 5 to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position the majority of the time using repetitive arm, hand and finger movements.
- Operates a computer the majority of the time and occasionally a copy machine.
- Frequently communicates with co-workers and others. Must be able to exchange accurate
- information in these situations whether in person, via email, or telephone.
- Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
