Preschool Aide

Title: Preschool Aide (100%)

Purpose:  The preschool aide is responsible for assisting the preschool teachers in the preparation, planning, and day-to-day duties of the Hill Country Christian School of Austin Preschool.    

Accountability:  Reports to the lower school principal.

FLSA Status:  Non-exempt, Full-time (Monday-Friday)

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • A high school diploma is required or equivalent and at least one year of experience working with children.
  • Must be skilled in handling multiple tasks simultaneously and be flexible to cover other duties as needed. 

Responsibilities:

  • Model and promote high Christian standards and expectations for all students and peer staff to encourage excellent academic performance and godly character.
  • Conduct yourself in the highest Christ-like behavior and decorum consistent with a professional school environment in all interactions with students, parents, and school staff.  Establish a professional rapport with students and staff that maintains their respect.
  • Establish and maintain positive communication with school staff, students, parents, and be part of a supportive and encouraging team.
  • Exhibit compassion, enthusiasm, and knowledge to create a quality educational program in a Christian setting.
  • Provide support to the preschool teacher(s) in gathering materials and preparing activities for students. 
  • Monitor and supervise assigned children at all times to ensure their safety and basic needs are met.
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining a classroom environment that is orderly, clean, inviting, safe, and promotes opportunities for social, spiritual, emotional, and academic learning. 
  • Assist in maintaining classroom materials and equipment. 
  • Able to relate easily and impartially to all children working toward the development of each one.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to various classroom settings and learning styles, schedules, and changes.
  • Provide administrative support to the preschool teacher(s) by making copies, laminating, maintaining art displays and bulletin boards.
  • Transition students to the lunchroom and enrichment classes.
  • Escort students to the nurse’s office or other areas of the school.
  • Monitor students on the playground, in the lunchroom, and in carpool.
  • Prepare take home folders.
  • Know and comply with school policies and handbook.
  • Address any staff, student, or parent issues in accordance with the principles set forth in Matthew 18 as commanded by Jesus Christ.
  • Notify the head of school, principal, and nurse immediately and any appropriate agencies when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse/neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  • Notify school officials and administration immediately when any behavior that is a physical risk to other staff, faculty, or students is observed or discovered either directly or indirectly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to grasp, move, or assemble small objects.
  • Frequently operate a computer and a printer/copy machine using repetitive movements.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information whether in person, via email or telephone.  Frequently communicates with co-workers and others. 
  • Possess the physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations in preschool and be able to lift 5 to 35 pounds.
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
