Position Purpose

To advance the mission of Hill Country Christian School by serving as a spiritual and academic leader cultivating character and academic excellence. This position supports fostering a Christ-centered learning environment, leading student discipleship and discipline, mentoring faculty, overseeing student life events and building strong partnerships with parents and faculty.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, or a graduate degree in the field of education, is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience working within an Upper School division in a Christian or Classical setting is required.
  • Experience working in a leadership capacity within Upper School (Middle and High School) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong administrative skills are required.
  • Must understand and be able to articulate how to effectively integrate the Christian Faith into the culture of this school, especially as it relates to student discipline and growth.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of conflict resolution skills.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and organization in building programs, solving problems, and managing multiple projects and tasks.

The High School Assistant Principal will cultivate a Christ centered and excellent High School program through:

Intentional cultivation of student life activities and programs:

  • Lead, develop, and implement programs, initiatives, and activities that foster a positive student culture aligned with the mission, vision, purpose, and core values of the school.
  • Oversee High School events, trips.
  • Develop and direct effective student life programs, including the small-group advisory program.
  • Serve as the administrative point person for working together on student discipleship and service opportunities.
  • Maintain a highly visible presence on campus, particularly during passing periods, lunches, chapels, study halls, and student assemblies.
  • Support in coordination of division-level and grade-level retreats and student life events as needed.
  • Complete other duties related to student prograHS and activities as assigned.

Support of departmental operations:

  • Act as the primary proxy for the High School Principal in their absence; collaborate closely on strategic campus goals, and the implementation of division-wide initiatives.
  • Serve as a support contact for parent inquiries and concerns; facilitate proactive, grace-filled parent-teacher conferences and lead targeted meetings to resolve issues.
  • Assist High School Principal with supervision and mentoring of High School faculty, providing constructive feedback to enhance instructional quality.
  • Support stakeholder management including hosting parent meetings.
  • Manage day-to-day logistics related to High School operations and schedules.

Engagement in discipleship and discipline:

  • Serve as a spiritual role model for students, staff, and the school community.
  • Lead the administration of student discipline in accordance with the handbook and in support of the mission, vision, purpose, and core values of the school. 
  • Utilize a grace-filled, restorative justice approach to discipline that encourages accountability and spiritual growth.
  • Promote, uphold, and enforce expectations for student conduct and appearance as stated in the handbook, intervening and assigning consequences as necessary.
  • Partner with parents in ensuring there is a gospel-oriented approach to student growth.
  • Collaborate with the High School Principal and other staff to review, update, and enforce handbook policies.
  • Assist High School Principal in reviewing teachers’ classroom management plans and practices, offering classroom support when needed.
  • Work closely with the High School Principal to enforce the bullying policy, adjudicating any alleged bullying issues and communicating with parents throughout the process.
  • Review and adjudicate allegations of academic dishonesty in violation of the handbook, eliciting support from the relevant Principal as needed.
  • Assign and maintain a record of student lockers, ensuring appropriate use and regular maintenance of lockers.
  • Assist in implementing and upholding student and campus safety drills, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure High School students use school-issued devices appropriately.
  • Other duties related to student expectations and policies as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move about inside and outside of campus buildings.
  • Must work in a stationary position using fine motor skills.
  • Frequently communicate with co-workers, students, parents, and others. Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information in person, via email, or by telephone. 
  • Able to lift 5 to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
