PE Teacher & Coach
Position Purpose
To advance the gospel and the mission of Hill Country Christian School by ensuring that every area within our athletics department pursues character formation in our students through rigorous and excellent athletic programs. classroom management skills, and godly interaction with students, families, and school faculty and staff.

OVERVIEW
The PE Coach will provide high-level physical education instruction and coach assigned middle school and/or high school athletic programs, support competitive performance, athlete development, and character formation consistent with the vision and core values of the athletic department.
Qualifications
- A BA/BS in Physical Education, Health Sciences, or Sports Management is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of similar or related experience
- Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
- Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs agree with the Statement of Faith of this school.
- Proven experience leading spiritual formation programs and events
- Must have a widespread knowledge of interscholastic sports.
- Must be physically fit and able to demonstrate activities for students.
- Ability and willingness to coach a minimum of one school sport strongly preferred

Major responsibilities and duties
- Teach MS and HS Physical Education (PE) and/or Performance Training (PT) courses with excellence and integrity, aligning curriculum, planning, and pedagogy in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy and athletic vision
- Coach assigned team(s) as determined by administration.
- Maintain accurate grading, assessment, and compliance documentation.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport or unit assigned.
- Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure and monitor the overall educational and physical development of students.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities, including but limited to…
- Encourage, by example and through instruction, God-honoring sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
- Transport students in school-issued vehicles as needed.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, administration, and teachers.
- Engage in professional development as required and/or encouraged by school administrators.
- Attend and participate in all staff and departmental meetings as required by school administrators.
- Establish and maintain an up-to-date inventory system for all school materials and equipment relevant to assigned courses and teaching assignments.
- Ensure students and staff care for and respect the school’s physical facilities. Report incidents of vandalism and misuse of school property to the appropriate school official, administrator, and/or supervisor.
- Address any staff , student, or parent issues in accordance with the principles set forth in Matthew 18 as commanded by Jesus Christ and implemented at Hill Country.
- Maintain a “substitute binder” that is up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Notify administration and maintain appropriate documentation regarding significant discipline issues such as violence, vandalism, and/or significant moral failure.
- Notify the head of school, principal, and nurse immediately, along with any appropriate agencies, when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, talk or threats of suicide, or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
- Notify school officials and administration immediately when any behavior that is a physical risk to other staff, faculty, or students is observed or discovered either directly or indirectly.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequently move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds.
- Frequently communicate with co-workers and others. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations whether in person, via email or telephone.
- Possess the physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of the position and coaching profession
- Occasional lifting of 5 to 20 pounds.
- Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
- Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions for outdoor events.
