Elementary School Aide

Position Purpose

The Elementary Aide is responsible for assisting grade level teachers in the preparation of learning materials and day-to-day duties.

Reports to the Lower School Principal

Non - Exempt (Part-Time)

Qualifications

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school. 
  • A high school diploma is required, and some experience working with children.
  • Must be skilled in handling multiple tasks simultaneously and be flexible to cover other duties as needed.  
  • Model and promote high Christian standards and expectations for all students and peer staff to encourage excellent academic performance and godly character. 
  • Conduct yourself in the highest Christ-like behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers through preparation of classroom or project materials
  • Grades objective assignments with clear, predetermined answers (e.g., worksheets, quizzes, and basic assessments.)
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information about students’ grades.
  • Acts as a self-starter by proactively supporting classroom needs and taking initiative without requiring constant direction.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, professional communication with staff and students contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Exhibits compassion, enthusiasm, and is willing to gain an overall understanding of the elementary program to help support a high-quality program within a Christian setting.
  • Demonstrates a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Assists teachers with transitions throughout the day (as needed), including escorting students to enrichment classes, the lunchroom, the nurse’s office, and other areas of the school, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Serves as a substitute when needed, ensuring continuity of instruction and maintaining established classroom routines and expectations.
  • Actively supervises students as needed, including in the classroom, on the playground, in the lunchroom, during carpool, in restrooms, and during specials.
  • Builds positive relationships with all students, treating each child with fairness, patience, and respect while supporting their individual development.
  • Uses discretion and professionalism when handling personal matters, including limiting personal phone use during work hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the school community.
  • Willingly takes on additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a team-oriented mindset.

Physical Requirements

  • Display a strong work ethic and be self-motivated.
  • Must be able to move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds frequently.
  • Must be able to stand or remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Able to grasp, move, or assemble small objects.
  • Effective multi-tasking and time management skills.  
  • Proficiency in computer and technology applications as needed for the role.   
  • Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information, whether in person, via email, or by telephone.  Frequently communicates with co-workers and others.  
  • Possess physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of teaching preschool and be able to lift 5 to 35 pounds.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to various classroom settings and learning styles, schedules, and changes.
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
